Here’s a quick intro to the best areas to stay in Mykonos and where to avoid staying.
In the last 50 years, Mykonos has become a summer playground for the private jet set and celebrities from Marlon Brando, Onassis, Steven Spielberg, Grace Kelly, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Kim Kardashian, and Armani have spent summers partying here.
Similarly to most islands in the Cyclades, Mykonos is divided into different beach or bay areas, with the main one being the island’s Town, also known as Chora.
The partying happens all over, but mainly in the beach clubs of Paradise and Super Paradise Beach and the nightclubs in Mykonos Town.
Old Mykonos Town is one of the most beautiful island towns in Greece, with impossibly winding narrow alleyways built to confuse pirates and nowadays, causing a tourist crush outside the winter months.
There is shopping for every budget here, from global brands such as Prada and Chanel to the Old Town Market selling clothing, jewelry, and home decor. You’ll find them on “The Strip,” which is the “main” street in Mykonos Town, called Matoyianni Street.
Little Venice is the waterfront area next to the old castle and you’ll find a bar and a nightclub on each corner. This means that your suite or villa may be very noisy.
I have never slept through the night in Chora because of loud, drunk partygoers finding their way home at 3 am! That’s why it’s a great idea to stay out of the main party streets and get a little privacy in your hard-earned downtime.
Top Mykonos hotels with private pools
Chora
The five hotels I’ve included here in Mykonos Chora give you the best of both worlds – privacy, and quietness at night, but still close to the action. It amazes me that I can be a couple of minutes from the Windmills or Little Venice but on an island of calm and privacy in these properties!
1. Myconian Korali Relais and Chateaux
The elegant 5-star suites with private pools at the Myconian Korali Relais & Chateaux look out to Delos Island and sit just above Mykonos Town, near its famous windmills.
Don’t miss the chance to take romantic, long walks among the twisting alleyways of the old town, only 1000 meters away!
Rooms feature terraces with private pools and stunning sea views. Each type of accommodation ( 16 options in total) offers different facilities, with half of them featuring outdoor jacuzzis and/or private pools.
The Phos superior room and Kynthos junior suite, for example, have outdoor jacuzzis, while the Aeon superior room and Era junior suite, have private pools. Some suites, like Cyclades and Ortigia, include both jacuzzis & private pools.
2. Myconian Kyma Design Hotel
On top of the hill, overlooking Mykonos Town, Kyma (greek for wave) has been offering its high-quality services for over 40 years.
With a view of Mykonos’s landmark, the windmills, and Little Venice, Mykonian Kyma boasts lavish gardens, private terraces, and art galleries.
The Aegean Room, Paragon Suite, and Sunset Suite have private outdoor jacuzzis. The Horizon Superior Room and the Mediterranean Suite have lovely marble baths, terraces, and private infinity pools.
The main pool and deck are the heart of Myconian Kyma, a relaxing and sophisticated outdoor space with sunbeds, a poolside bar, and lounge areas.
3. Cavo Tagoo
I’m a great fan of Cavo Tagoo in Santorini, so I was excited to see the cave pool at this new property, which is just the kind of delightful surprise you get at Cavo Tagoo properties in Greece.
In addition to the cave pool suite, the Premium Room and the One and Two-bedroom Villas have private pools. The Two-Bedroom Suite has an outdoor hot tub that is large enough for you and 4 of your closest friends!
The truly new and innovative thing about Cavo Tagoo in Mykonos is that since May 2022, there is an annual Zuma restaurant pool deck party with resident DJs, sun loungers, and day pool, sunset, and evening experiences that embody the Mykonos party atmosphere in a 5-star setting.
If you’d like to experience Zuma without staying at Cavo Tagoo, it’s about 250 Euros a day for entrance, so you may as well stay in one of the beautiful Cavo Tagoo private pool suites!
4. Belvedere Mykonos
You’ll find this luxury 5-star hotel in the bustling center of Mýkonos City next to Fabrika. It’s called a “petite Grand Hotel,” and is a Leading Hotels of the World Property.
In addition to the main hotel and suites, the Belvedere also has Hilltop Rooms and Suites (250 m above the main hotel), and a Waterfront Villa and Suites.
In the main hotel, the Honeymoon Room has a charming private pool and a romantic garden. Standard Rooms with Jacuzzi is a great alternative to enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi, sheltered corner in the Belvedere garden.
The dream suite of Belvedere Mansion features a private pool with a spectacular view and twin dining & pool sunset terraces.
The Belvedere Villa and Summer 3 Bedroom Residence have private pools, while the Summer 2 Bedroom Residence features a one-of-a-kind outdoor plunge pool.
In the Summer 2 Bedroom Suite (ok, so they’re not very original with their room naming!), there’s a private outdoor jacuzzi and you can book the 3 Summer Suites separately or together.
5. Boheme
A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, there are only six suites in this serene gem of a hotel that manages to find peace and calm in Mykonos Town.
Of the six suites, the Honeymoon Sea View Suite, Bohemian Sea View Suite, and Grand Bohemian Suite have outdoor jacuzzis and high-quality fittings that are understated and super comfortable.
I can recommend the Bohemian Suite (pictured above) for a sense of peace and for what Mykonos must have been like before it became overdeveloped and overpopulated in the summer.
Megali Ammos
A 10-minute walk from Mykonos Town is the nearest beach, Megali Ammos. “Maegali” means ‘very big,’ and “Ammos” means sand, so you won’t be surprised to know that it’s a sandy beach!
It’s a public beach and the winds can be strong here. Megali Ammos is full of people swimming in the azure clear water, sunbaking, and hanging out at the local taverna during summer.
6. Mykonos Bay Resort & Villas
Mykonos Bay Resort and Villas is on Megali Ammos Beach, just 300 meters away from Mykonos Town, and the pool lounge bar is a beautiful place to watch the sunset (cocktail in hand!)
Of it’s13 room types, the Deluxe Double Room has both an outdoor jacuzzi and a private pool. The Private Luxury 2 Bedroom Art Sea View Suite also has an outdoor jacuzzi and private pool, while the Private Luxury 3 Bedroom Art Villa and the Standard Premium Residence have outdoor jacuzzis.
The rooms and villas are large, white, and contemporary which guests often comment is a beautiful “Mykonian style.”
Between the beach immediately in front of the Resort, the private pools and jacuzzis, and the enormous main pool, this is a perfect summer holiday spot.
7. Bill and Coo Suites and Lounge
Bill & Coo is a prestigious 5-star hotel located on Megali Ammos Beach, Mykonos, and is a Leading Hotels of the World property that offers sea-view suites and villas.
My favorite suite is the Bill & Coo Suite with Pool which has a private and spacious terrace with stone walls surrounding the pool but with a clear view of the waves and the beach just meters away.
The One-Bedroom Villas feature a king-size bed, an open-plan living room, indoor and outdoor dining, and lounging areas, and of course, a private pool.
The Deluxe Suite with Plunge Pool overlooks the Aegean Sea is and a perfect spot to watch Mykonian sunsets, while the Honeymoon Suite has a grand terrace, outdoor lounge, and outdoor hot tub.
The luxury suites at Bill & Coo feature contemporary design, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers, and the main hotel pool is a stylish large infinity pool overlooking the beach.
In addition to the main complex, there is also a Bill & Coo Coast Adults-Only coastal suites property, 3000 meters away in Agios Ioannis.
Super Paradise Beach
Super Paradise Beach Bay is home to the island’s most upscale beach clubs and hosts Greece’s largest beach party. There’s non-stop partying, dancing, and international artists and DJs in the months, 5 km from Mykonos Chora.
And of course, you’re also very close to Paradise Beach and the Paradise Club, the most famous nightlife venue in Mykonos.
The Paradise Club opens around 2 am, but these two properties give you a great view but without any noise!
8. My Aktis Luxury Suites and Villas
My Aktis Luxury Suites and Villas are only 5 minutes away from Super Paradise Beach. The minimalistic design and panoramic views capture the Myconian Island summer ethos perfectly.
Rooms, suites, and villas in Aktis include shared pools, private mini and full-size pools, and jacuzzis with panoramic views over the Aegean Sea. Hot tubs are featured in 4 room types, one of them being the Grande Suite with Sea View.
The Two Bedroom Villa and Three Bedroom Villa share a beautiful outdoor swimming pool oriented toward the rocky landscape, the sky, and the sea.
Five Bedroom Villa and Six Bedroom Villa include infinity private pools in spacious outdoor areas with flowers and views over the bay.
I love that this architecturally designed property with such high-quality finishes and natural materials is in the heart of the action in Mykonos (only a 5-minute walk to Jackie O’ and the Super Paradise beach bar), but is a sea of calm for when you’ve had enough of the frenetic nature of Mykonian nightlife!
9. Ammonite Mykonos Private Suites
It’s hard to find quality accommodation at one of the world’s most famous beaches, but these 4-star private suites and lovely examples of Cycladic stone design and are very Instagrammable.
The Ammonite Resort is 2.5 km from Super Paradise Beach and 2.9 km from Agrari Beach and their rooms have large terraces with private pools or hot tubs as well as beautiful sea views.
The Superior Double Room and Deluxe Double Traditional Stone Room have luxurious private pools, while the Deluxe Double Room has both a private swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi.
Ornos
Ornos is often described as the most beautiful village in Mykonos and the properties here are of a very high quality. From glass pools to super-romantic and private spaces, you’ll love the best of Ornos’ accommodations.
10. Mykonian O Hotel
New build that opened for the 2023 summer season, Mykonian O Hotel is the newest luxury offering from the Mykonian Collection and brings to 11 the number of properties that the brand operates on Mykonos.
In this luxurious Adults-only hotel, the pools are located within private outdoor settings, lush foliage, and have intimate lighting and table settings that flow from the living areas of the suites.
On the water but entirely private, soundless, with enormous attention to materials, color, and a restful aesthetic, you can almost feel your blood pressure drop as you enter your suite but then you’ll find you have a huge grin on your face – it’s so nice to find a fun, private, beautiful hotel on Mykonos!
11. Kivotos Mykonos
With a glass pool, a private beach, and moonlit dining on Ornos Bay, there’s a lot to like about Kivotos.
Like Kivotos Santorini, Kivotos Mykonos is a luxury hotel that pays attention to little details and is superbly located. It is on its own private beach at Ornos Bay.
The hotel has family rooms and the level of privacy it manages, its two on-site restaurants, airport shuttle, and private beach combine to make this an ideal luxury hotel for families.
Six of the Suites have private pools, the Signature 130 Suite has a glass pool (pictured above) and you can see that the dominant color of the suite styling at Kivotos is white.
This suite also has its own sauna and the glass pool extends to the edge of the property with wonderful sea views of Ornos Bay.
The Hideaway Villa with Infinity Private Pool has a separate entrance and manages to hide itself away from the hotel and has a view of the Bay that feels like a separate house. The infinity pool is beautifully landscaped – you’ll never want to leave your own private resort.
12. Mykonos No5 Luxury Suites & Villas
On a hill above the village of Kanalia at Ornos Bay, Mykonos No 5 Suites & Villas has panoramic views from its private terraces and pools.
Many people who’ve stayed here believe this to be the best hotel on the island which I think is because it has a very nice main pool deck area but it also has family rooms, and it’s Two Bedroom Suite with Private Pool and Sea Views can sleep 5.
The most romantic suite is the Signature Suite which has a large screened terrace and private pool overlooking Ornos Bay and romantic bedding.
13. Dreambox Mykonos Suites
Like Mykonos No 5 Suites & Villas above, Dreambox Mykonos Suites is located above Ornos with panoramic bay views and several excellent family options.
The hotel caters to both couples and families, with a high level of fittings and furnishings, from shopping bags and luxury robes to sea-green crockery.
The two-bedroom villas have private pools, two bedrooms, three bathrooms, and full kitchens as well as private terraces, and private pools that look over the water and the beach at Ornos.
The main outdoor pool is located at the edge of the property with Ornos Bay below and views over the beach.
Elia Beach
Lovely Elia Beach is the largest expanse of sandy beach on Mykonos and has some of the best properties with private pools on the island.
It’s 12 kilometers from Mykonos Town and reminds me of Bondi Beach in Sydney – it is both truly family-friendly and LGBTQIA+ friendly and is a favorite beach of the locals as well.
14. Myconian Villa Collection
The Myconian Villa Collection is perched above Elia Bay allowing panoramic views of the Aegean Sea from your private pool. This is my favorite hotel for families visiting Mykonos because of its family villas.
The benefit of this hotel is the uninterrupted romantic setting, a little apart from the business of the beach areas below.
There are five types of suites and villas. The Elegant Suite has an outdoor jacuzzi, the Lovers Suite has a private pool, and the three Villa options include private infinity pools extending out from furnished terraces.
The hotel’s main swimming pool is surrounded by four-poster beds, sun lounges, and a poolside bar.
15. Royal Mykonian
The Royal Myconian – Preferred Hotels and Resorts is a prestigious 5-star hotel next to Elia Beach but with its own private beach as well.
The spacious rooms and suites are designed as cool sanctuaries, offering private balconies or expansive terraces for guests to enjoy the stunning views.
The hotel offers 12 room types. Guests have the option of selecting rooms or suites with private infinity pools or Jacuzzis. The Lover’s Suite Open Plan with Private Pool has a romantic pink and white theme and a lovely private terrace and pool area with views over the Bay and beach.
The Royal Myconian’s Thalasso spa facilities are extensive and world-class and the main hotel pool area is just as extensive, the main feature being its infinity pool.
16. Myconian Avaton
Named after the ancient Greek term “άβατον” (sacred place), Myconian Avaton is an opulent hotel built on a rocky spot above Elia Beach.
The Myconian Avaton Features 2 outdoor pools, a thalassotherapy wellness center, a private beach, and a free airport shuttle.
The accommodation options are diverse with each room being unique. However, all units create an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable atmosphere with furnished balconies, private pools, and jacuzzis, overlooking the white sands of Elia Beach.
The rooms are just a little more compact than some of the more expensive 5-star hotels with the same high level of hotel facilities, and this makes it a good value accommodation option, especially for families who will love the two and four-bedroom villas.
17. Myconian Imperial
Myconian Imperial is a Leading Hotels of the World property near Elia Beach, the largest sandy beach on Mykonos.
Imperial’s facilities include a pool deck and saltwater pools, a jacuzzi tub, a poolside cocktail bar, a modern spa, three restaurants, and a sushi bar.
Of its accommodation options, the Premium and Superior offer the chance for guests to have access to private outdoor jacuzzis or pools as features in large terraces viewing the Myconian seascape.
The lavish Executive and Grand Executive suites have private pools in spacious well-decorated terraces with outstanding Aegean views.
18.Smy Mykonos Suites and Villas – ex Greco Philia
Smy Mykonos Suites & Villas – ex Greco Philia is another exceptional hotel looking down on Elia Beach, 200 meters away.
And like the best of these Elia Beach hotels, it also has a private beach, impressive pool and pool deck area, fitness center, sports activities, and spa & wellness services.
It’s hard to put a finger on why this hotel is so lovely – the guest reviews almost always praise the ‘setting’ and I think it’s the orientation of the hotel so that the view is 360 degrees of the island of Mykonos as it sweeps from Elia Beach all the way northwards toward Mykonos Town.
The setting of the hotel gives guests a sense of Mykonos which I think is the most memorable part of a stay here.
Three suites have private pools and sea views: the Junior Suite with Private Pool, as well as the Grand Delux Villa and Grand Suite Deluxe, and a sense of restfulness envelops you as the rooms flow outwards to the private terraces and pools overlooking Elia Beach.
19. Senses Luxury Suites
Senses Luxury Villas & Suites in Elia Beach offers a range of accommodation options including 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedroom villas and suites.
The property is set back from the beach, but still only 200 meters away, with Agrari Beach 650 m away. It has free parking, a large outdoor pool with a bar, and is highly rated for the service of its friendly staff.
The Three and Four Bedroom Villas have large private pools, and there is a private outdoor hot tub on the terrace of the One-Bedroom Apartment with an Outdoor Hot Tub and the Two-Bedroom Suite with an Outdoor Hot Tub.
20. Arte & Mare Elia Luxury Suites
Right on Elia Beach, these luxury suites are all stone, glass, and the white and blue colors of traditional Cycladic architecture.
Arte and Mare Elia Luxury Suites has an on-site spa that offers thalassotherapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, sauna, and hammam treatments and there’s a beach bar that serves cocktails as the sun goes down at their private beach area.
There are two swimming pools, a Presidential Suite with Sea View & Outdoor Spa, a Presidential Suite with Sea View & Private Pool, and Two, Three, and Five-Bedroom Villas each with a private pool.
The prize villa though is the Idolio Villa which has 12 bedrooms, a living room with 5 sofa beds, 2 private pools, and 3 outdoor spas! And of course, sea views.
Platys Gialos
Platys Gialos is a bay, beach, and resort village 5 kilometers from Mykonos Chora (town). Perfect for families, the bay slopes gently down from the beach and the water is clear. Boats moor to one side of the beach and the waterfront is lined with bars and tavernas.
The only downside is there is not a large area free of sunbeds. Windy days can be a challenge here but generally, there is a gentle breeze and the water temperature is perfect.
21. Palladium Mykonos
Located in Platys Gialos, Palladium Mykonos is just a 5-minute walk from Psarou and Platys Gialos Beaches.
You are getting great food, service, location, room stylings, and ambiance, as well as resort facilities at the Palladium, which is a very popular and highly reviewed hotel.
The food is exceptional here and the only slight qualm I have about the Palladium is that I think that compared to other hotels with private pools at this price point, the rooms are quite small.
The Luxury Double with Private Pool, for example, is only a 32 sq. meter room but has a much larger private pool than you’ll find at most other hotels!
Another plus about the private pools here is that guests in suites with private pools can opt for their breakfast to be served floating in their pool!
I particularly love the styling of the Exclusive Suite with a Private Pool and the Grand Two Bedroom Suite with a Private Pool has a 36 square meter private pool on a large furnished terrace.
22. Mykonian Ambassador Relais and Chateau
This luxury hotel above Platys Gialos beach must surely win the trophy for the most private pool room configurations – you can have your pools private, shared, heated, unheated, or choose a hot tub!
True Blue Double Room with Outdoor Hot Tub is 28 sq meters and has an ocean view from its terrace. There is also a True Blue Double Room with Private Pool. The pool is quite lovely with a view over the beach and landscaped trees on one side.
A third True Blue Room has a heated Private Pool and there are several suites with private hot tubs on their furnished terraces.
In addition, there are suites, villas, rooms, and a “private retreat” with private pools, heated and unheated, as well as a few suites with shared pools.
The Myconian Ambassador Relais & Chateaux has what it describes as a “huge” outdoor and it also has a well-regarded spa center that has Pantia treatments, Elemis products, an indoor pool, and a hot tub.
Psarou Beach
A small beach with lovely green water, only 15 meters long that is almost completely covered in umbrellas and sun loungers! It’s very popular, expensive, and a lot of fun – don’t miss the fireworks when Nammos restaurant holds its parties.
23. Portes Suites & Villas Mykonos
This is an affordable 4-star property with simple, modern fittings. Located between Psarou and Platys Gialos beaches, each of the rooms and suites at Portes Suites and Villas have private pools or outdoor jetted tubs.
The Superior Suite and the Two and Three-Bedroom Villas have private pools that are so large, you can swim laps in them.
The outdoor main pool, bar, and restaurant areas are simple, chic, and relaxing with a focus on super-friendly staff and wonderful breakfasts.
There’s free parking and only a 5-10 minute drive to Mykonos Chora, but there is also an airport and port shuttle bus if you’re not hiring a car.
24. Alissachni Mykonos
Alissachni Mykonos is a new luxury Boutique Hotel with unobstructed views of the Aegean Sea that won the 2021 Honeymoon Hideaway Hotel of the Year Award.
Some suites and rooms feature a private pool, shower, and bathtub with a spectacular sea view. The hotel itself is 300 meters from Psarou Beach and 400 meters from the center of Psarou.
There is only one room style that doesn’t have a private pool or outdoor jacuzzi. When they say Jacuzzi here, they mean the regular size of a private pool at other hotels!
The views from the restaurant, bar, and terrace are quite special because they look over the Aegean to Mykonos and several other islands. I think this hotel is really worth a go, there’s just a great feel to it. Check out the photos and see what you think.
25. Grecotel Mykonos Blu
If there was a “best show-off hotel award,” Grecotel Mykonos Blu would win it hands down.
Whether it’s the two-level infinity pool, its own private part of Psarou Beach, or its private cave pool suite, this is a very glamorous offering.
This is a spectacular family hotel on a sheltered beach with large villas and all-day snacks.
A large variety of Villas and Suites have private indoor or outdoor pools, and there are a few rooms with outdoor jacuzzis. If you are traveling with a large group of people, there are some very large villas on offer with spectacular private pools.
Agios Ioannis
One of the best and quietest, most secluded beaches on Mykonos. There are bars and taverns but no large beach clubs and while there are private areas, there is also a public area.
The Sacred Island of Delos is right in front of Agios Ioannis.
26. Katikies Mykonos
Katikies Santorini is a knockout but this Leading Hotels of the World Property rivals its sibling.
This 5-star boutique hotel is 500 meters from Agios Ioannis Beach. The furnished terraces extend from the living areas of the rooms and suites and all have private pools or outdoor hot tubs.
The interiors of Katikies Hotels in the Aegean reflect the most beautiful and sometimes the simplest aspects of Cycladic design but with modern 5-star touches. I think of it as minimalist luxe!
What distinguishes Katikies Mykonos from other luxury hotels on beautiful Mykonos is the ‘wow’ value of its facilities which include two infinity pools, a spa, a boutique featuring Greek and international designer brands, Botrini’s Mykonos restaurant, Lower and Upper Deck Lounges, and Fleur de Miraval’s Champagne Bar.
27. Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort
The most popular words in the reviews of the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort are “wow,” “beyond expectations,” and “coming back again.”
On the beach at Agios Ioannis, with its own part as a private beach, the Mykonos Grand Hotel and Resort, and a very opulent feel.
The resort features a spa, fitness center, and excellent food and champagne, as you’d expect at a first-class resort, but it is that exceptional level of service and the consistency of the high-quality fit-out that gives the hotel a dreamy feel.
Suites, Delux Suites, and Grand Suites all have large private pools, the Premium Rooms have shared pools or indoor jetted hot tubs, and one part of the private pool of the impressive Villa is pictured above.
28. Anax Resort & Spa
The furnished terraces with their blue private pools are the standout feature of the Anax Resort & Spa in Agios Ioannis, although the spa is also highly regarded.
The interior styling of the rooms and suites is low-key Cycladic luxe, the pools and terraces have a ‘wow’ factor that makes staying in easy!
There are 7 rooms and suites with private pools and a Luxury Beachfront Suite with an Outdoor Jetted Tub on the furnished terrace that looks down onto the cove.
Whilst the Anax provides free airport and port transfers, you need your own wheels or to take public transport to get into Mykonos Town.
29. Amazon Mykonos Resort & Spa
This exceptional resort has an average score of 9.9 out of 10 from hundreds of reviewers on Booking.com. That’s almost unheard of!
You get the sense with each of the rooms and suites here that they are floating at the edge of the land, just hanging at the edge beside the sea.
It’s not just the private heated infinity pools, but also the way the rooms are sited and their large windows that deliberately capture the best views.
The Executive Sea View Suite with Private Infinity Pool is THE most romantic suite I have seen in Mykonos.
The prices here are not as eye-watering as at other comparable properties.
Houlakia Bay
